- Enjoy working with children
- Flexible in your ability to provide care for families, either on a full time, part time or casual basis
- Have an understanding of the different developmental needs of children and are prepared to follow the National Standards for family day care and EYLF to plan and provide play-based experiences for children in your care.
- Live in an appropriate home that will provide an environment suitable for the children with access to both in and outdoor play areas
- Acceptance of diversity, inclusive practices and respectful of families including cultural or religious practices, disabilities and additional needs
- Basic level of spoken and written English to communicate with families, co-ordination unit, and emergency services as well as help guide children’s learning
- Good knowledge of nutrition, health, safety and hygiene
- An awareness of the importance of professional developmental and continuous improvement of effective child care practices
Qualifications
- Police Certificate less than 6 months old

- HLTAID012
- HLTAID009 update
- Current First Aid certificate
- Current Anaphylaxis training
- Current Asthma management
- Educators need to complete minimum of certificate 3 in children services or are currently studying for this
Mandatory Requirements Prior to Commencement
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or over
- Police Checks certificate for the applicant and any other residents in the home 18 years of age and over
- Working with children check for applicant and any other resident 18 years of age and over (they can apply for a volunteer check, free of cost)
- Home Safety Assessment
- Obtain a Australian Business Number (ABN)
- Public Liability Insurance (Care providers are encouraged to take up insurance with Family Day Care Australia. For further information see www.icarefdc.com.au
- For renters, permission from landlord to operate family day care from the home.
- Medical Clearance from your doctor (provided by iCare).
For your family day care business to be successful you need to consider that your physical environment includes appropriate toys, play equipment and resources, that promote children’s learning, support your program and experiences, meet the developmental needs of each child and stimulates children’s interest and curiosity.
